Klaipeda notary re-elected as the President of the Lithuanian Chamber of Notaries
Next three years the Lithuanian Chamber of Notaries will be headed by Klaipeda notary Marius Stračkaitis, who states that he is going to seek modernization of notary’s profession and improvement of quality of services. At the general meeting of members of the Chamber of Notaries that was held on the 29th of March M. Stračkaitis was re-elected by an absolute majority of voices to the third term. After declaration of results of secret voting M. Stračkaitis said that he is going to continue implementation of previous four priorities: creation of electronic system “e.Notaras”, expansion of competence of notaries, improvement of quality of services provided by them and culture of customer service, efficient and constructive cooperation with Seimas and Government. The Chamber of Notaries will also continue to contribute to science of law and its supporting activities. At the meeting notaries by secret voting elected Vilnius City notary Daiva Lukaseviciute-Binkuliene as a Vice President. Position of organization Vice President was entrusted to her by colleagues-notaries for the third time in a row. Notaries have also approved composition of presidium of the Lithuanian Chamber of Notaries, Court of Honour and other internal structures.
Minister of Justice Juozas Bernatonis, who was speaking at the meeting of Lithuanian notaries, stated that he appreciates the Chamber of Notaries for active actions in self-control sphere. “Ministry of Justice rarely has to institute disciplinary cases against notaries or initiate unscheduled qualification as the Chamber of Notaries is actively engaged in it by itself. In my opinion, such self-control shows sufficient level of maturity of a professional association”, J. Bernatonis said. According to the Minister of Justice, Government programme involves revision of court functions and transfer of some of them, not related directly to examination of disputes, to other institutions and also to notaries. It is subject to discussion whether to expand sphere of competence of notaries in order to grant them the right to make enforcement entries with regard to transactions, certified in a notarial form, of which financial liabilities arise. It is to be analyzed whether notaries should be given a possibility to dissolve marriages by mutual consent of spouses, and also a possibility to assign functions of mediation to notaries.
The Lithuanian Chamber of Notaries is a professional legal association acting in compliance with laws and uniting all Lithuanian notaries. Currently, in Lithuania 229 notary offices perform their activities with 269 notaries working there.
